Tacho Cable jammed at engine housing

So, once again my GS has given me a lovely surprise. The tacho cable snapped so I got a replacement, the only problem is where the housing on the engine is, it's jammed and the nut has crumbled, molegrips didn't work either, nor can I get the poxy housing off. Does anyone know of a solution, or does it mean a new housing?
Thanks and happy riding all

Sorry it wasn't letting me put pictures up using my phone, so I have blown the dust from my laptop and I'll send an image (not of my bike) but what I am talking about. Hope this clears it up

That my son is what is known as...shot to sh1t...replacement tacho drive and housing required

Here's a cheap clone that works: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPLICA-SU...item540ada4f46

Just what I thought, after taking the 8mm out is it just a simple take off, pull out, put new in, continue with my day? Or is this some bullsh17 remove head to get to drive sort of job

Remove 8mm, remove housing, recover worm drive, clean everything, replace in reverse order. Sometimes the worm drive gets stuck and just refuses to come out, if that happens, you may need to pull the cam cover off and lever it out. Other than that, it's a straightforward job to do, just make sure it's spotless going back together again or you may end up with an oil leak

Yup, remove 8mm bolt and then the housing for the drive should just pull out.

If you do have trouble it 's quite simple to get the cam cover off although it's a much easier job if you take the tank off.
It's not neccessary to take the tank off but it's only two bolts and the fuel pipes and it gives you lots more room to get at the tacho drive. (don't forget to turn the fuel off)

And while you are in there you can check your valve clearances.
