new exhaust -help
hey everyone need to get a new exhaust after a hard winter for my little gs500e. got a few lil holes in the exhaust near the back and apart from the amazingly loud booming sound it now makes it isnt very nice.
i have noticed a few of you on the members page have some absolutely beautiful exhaists and full stainless systems and i would love full stainless down pipes and can i think they look really nice. also i have just snapped a little part off my front brake lever tonight - it got caught on the window frame when putting it at my girlfriends and pulled open the wrong way smapping the little bit that makes it stay pretty closed against the spring there.
any help where i can get these parts would be very helpful as im a student and not really able to afford the labour charge from a garage.
thanks a lot - adrian

If you cant afford garage labour charges I think yhe price of a stainless system is going to blow your socks off. Change the lever I would think,( without seeing it) they are cheap enough. Any motorbike shop will have a universal lever that will fit, I would think for a few quid
As for the exhaust try ebay (I know nothing about it but they all seem to swear by it on here) or a breakers yard. New will eat up your grant (Do they still do grants for students in England)
Any way good luck, I think you may need it.

Hi Adrian, well for the brake lever its only gonna be about a fiver from Hunters on westgate road - and thats what I have on mine after the original was broken recently.
as for instruction manuals as to how to change the lever yourself etc, you could try -
Click here to go to download page
as the bike is listed on there and you can download the manual. (if you type in ctrl and f together, it opens the find box and type in there gs500 and it should find it for you)
Exhausts and big stuff I tend to get from ebay, if you do a search for gs500e, g s 500 etc you'll be amazed what comes up, just keep an eye on postage
That said there is a breakers just down from hunters which might be able to help.
See the trading post section on here as well, theres a few lads breaking their bikes, so you might get what you want there.
failing that, the predator exhausts come highly recommended, if not a lot of us have motad nexxus systems
Im just down the road if you want to meet, but Im not the most techie person on here as you'll probably work out for yourself
Hope this helps
Al.

Grants don't exist now. Students get LOans upto £4000 and if parents earn over a certain amount they pay tuition fees upto £1000 per year.
My daughter will finish her 4 year course over £16000 in debt and they have to pay interest on it. It is repayable when they earn over ,I think it's £12000 a year.
Welcome to the nice new world.

I picked up a damn fine second hand exhaust from Tony ( suzukimad ) on this site. Fitting it took about 20 mins after getting the guys advice on a hex drive kit - not allan keys.
Only panic was when the grease I'd used to tag in teh new gasketts started to smoke.

Good God Bill thats bloody awfull.
My daughter was at University at Toulouse for 5 tears on a grant. (loans dont exist here for that) Last year she was on a full grant to do post gaduate studies (from home) whilst working as an assistant (part time) at the Lycee (secondary school) and she's going to do the same thing this year. If you work in the education system they dont take it into consideration when assesing the grant.
All I can say is Im bloody pleased (for my daughter if nothing else) to live in France.
I thought the "socialists" had been in power for some time in England Whatever happened to FREE EDUCATION for everyone.
Great start for your daughter, thumping great debt hanging round her neck.
Shit they piss me off, politicians. Money grabbing, hypocritical...................................... ...............

Its been like this for a while now. I'm already saving in case either of my sons decides they want to go onto tertiary education. It wont cover the full costs but it will help them a little.
The argument is you get paid more money if your a graduate and so can easily repay it. Which is just plain bilgewater.
Trouble is everyone can get to higher education these days. You can study just about any esoteric useless subject somewhere. You can probably do a degree in bovine excretions from university of middle nowhere. these days. And you needs 2 gcse's in woodwork and general studies to get onto the course. Grade E. It has to be paid for and no one likes higher taxes.
The solution ( if it were me ) Pay a grant based on a) the acheivements at A'Level and b) the value to the country of the course. Along with a final payment based on the result achieved.
Then we just have to argue about the value of the course to the country.

Whatever happened to education for educations sake. Which I am happy to say still seems to be the case here (how long it will last I dont know) The idea that everything in this world has a price is I am afraid beyond my comprehension..
I had heard that the English school system was going down hill, dumbing down was the phrase I heard, and that exams are easy to pass.
I wouldnt want to go back to the system that I suffered under whilst at Grammar school, but it seems that things have swung too far the other way.
Why should you have to pay for your childrens education Pashda you do that all ready by the taxes that you pay etc; and why should they have to pay, education is a right not a pivilege .
I simply do not understand.

Not only that JJ. When I moved here I bought a house I did not want to be near a so called GOOD school. After 3 years I found she had no comprehension and had failed two hearing tests which I knew nothing about. After an operation on her ears we sent her to private school so I ended up paying twice and she has been trying to catch up ever since. We have not had a holiday in 20 years,no internal decoration has been done in the house either and until I took early retirement I was running around in old bangers for cars. My only luxury is my bike I bought in 2001.
This computer is only here cause Victoria needed one for her schooling and now Uni
I would liked to have been like you, climbed the ladder and pulled it up after me on some nice mountain somewhere.
Socialism does not exist, anywhere.
One legged roof tilers from Rumania however can come over here get housed and get £3000 to buy a car.
How do I know that, we have Estonians,Lithuanians and got knows what working in the car auctions where I work part time.
And this her last year I have to pay towards Tuition fees and do you know why.
Because I got a Carers Allowance last August to look after my wife who has had Multiple Sclerosis since 1986 and theyclass it as Income. So in effect the Carers Allowance pays her Tuition fees.
Oh yes I forgot, I retired in July 2003 and had a heart attack in December 2003.
Welcome to the nice new world.
