Gs500 ew - bandit wheel

hi guys long time no wright, i was at a bike meet the other week (the waterman in warwick) and i was told that a bandit 600 1998 would fit my gs500, with a bend off the brack caliper arm and a bit off grinding it would fit. Has any one tried it or knows if this is true. Also i am changing the front forks so i can have twin disc and i had a close look at a bandit 600 and the forks look very similar, again any advise on that. Thanks guys, oh and if any one replies "just buy a bandit" like other bikers have said, i hope you guys understand that our little gs500's are just brill.

Hi matey the bandit wheel takes a larger fit and yes you would have to off set/ bend the brake arm to accomodate. Hmmmz and a few did it i'm sure? Do a search buddy.

If you use the search function on this site you may find a link somewhere. You made need to become paid up member (£3) to search fully, I tell it'll be the best few quid you've spent! I know the info from what's on here is priceless!

Try searching on here in the "how to's" and "FAQ's"

I have a twin front end using RGV parts. There are also a few How to's on fitting a wider back wheel.

If you want the Us web site have a few Modifcation guides up on their site.

that would be good, i only have the old man to go out with and hes got a v-max so on the straights i just get stones in my visor. next time im planning to go up ill give you shout on this thread. Thanks for your help chaps, im on it.

Yes Woodie, just off the A46 at Hatton near Warwick, quite mobbed at this time of year A34, M42 for you. I was thinking of arranging to meet you near there for SM III to show you a prettier way than the M6 toll.

thanks for the help lads, found a link on wikipeadia and theres oooodels of stuff on there about gs500 mods, some people have put some effot into writing guides to do the back wheel conversion ect. hopefully see one of you up the Waterman some time. . p.s. how do i put a link onto a thread

oh woodie, could you share anymore knowleage you have of the RGV forks, year exact model ect, thanks ski.

That link is to the US site GSTWINS. if you hop on there they have some very good guides written by a guy called Pablo. He does aq good job as he includes photos and links in his write ups.

If you follow the link to the back wheel modification page and read down to the bottom section. the Black GS with the SRAD tail unit was done by our Tame Kiwi. Logan AKA HMMNZ.

Basically the forks I used were from an RGV 250 VJ21. (long story Short) I used the stem from the GS welded to the yokes from the RGV, front wheel, discs and calipers also got used.

Brake lines are custom made to length BFGoodriche and sorted by a Bandit 1200 Master cylinder.

Top yoke conversion to take Renthal bars is again a custom job with the risers made specially for my bike. All done by me.

Also Look Up "Levs' streetfighter" threads, he and Sean did conversions using the later RGV250 VJ22/23 USD front forks. Also you can use GSX400R forks as they are the same as the RGV USD's.
To get over the Stem Problem Lev and Sean used spacers made up for them by local engineering firms.
