DR650 Forks

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone can help out with an observation but I'm sure that I read somewhere that you can fit a DR650 front end straight on to a GS500EV can anyone confirm this as I have a vague plan for a special rolling around the old brainbox.
Cheers

It really depends on just how much fettling you want to do...

It's not a straight swap if I remember, the Stem is totally different between the two. The Head bearings are an awkward size on the GS as well, so you are pretty much stuck with using them. One possibility, after the Stems are both pressed out the Yokes of course, might be to spray weld or similar your original GS Stem and then have it turned back to size for the DR yoke and press it back in. There's not a lot in it size wise, but I do know the GS Stem is a smidge smaller in diameter as well as being a good bit shorter in length. I haven't done any actual measurements though, so you may be in for a few surprises along the way

Cheers for that, early stages but food for thought.
I've had my GS for 6 weeks now. I smile on my way to work, I smile on my way home, and I wonder why in hell didn't I get one twenty years ago

Do you know what the diameter of the DR650 forks?

37MM will fit straight into the GSyokes ? but I seem to remember the DRforks are quite a bit longer, a considerable bit more than you could gain with a shock swap and shorter dog bones at the rear to level it off.

Then comes the fun and games with wheels. Will you be using GS wheels or DR 650 wheeels. if so will a DR650 spindle fit a GS wheel. Brakes? dual discs?

Mudguard mountings ?

and so on !

Oh my gawd, well as old uncle Harry was fond of saying "well nipper, always face trials with miles of smiles" and spookily enough I bought a digital caliper only yesterday.
